Chrysler's Amplex division was created in 1930 to
manufacture sintered bronze
bushings. In 1938, Chrysler Amplex Division decided to
offer this process to
general
industry and established exclusive regional
distributors around the
United States.
John C. Tarbell was awarded the New England States
territory
and J.C. Tarbell
was founded. He won that competition over a Quincy,
Ma.
based
company, Boston Gear. The company was originally a
storefront
operation but
quickly grew to accommodate full machining
capabilities. Our
original customers were
companies like: GE, Pneumatic Scale, Smith &

Wesson, Sikorsky Aircraft and Indian Motorcycles.
Today the
company is owned by a third generation
grandson,
John W. Tarbell. In 1998, J.C. Tarbell
merged with
another family owned bearing
company ( LM76 )
and the company
is now LM-Tarbell, Inc.

In
1976, LM-Tarbell was approached by an engineer who was experiencing
brinelling issues in an application
where he was employing a Thomson® Ball Bushing™
in rapid oscillation. LM-Tarbell's successful design of a
sleeve-type, direct drop-in replacement bearing - the original
drop-in replacement - launched a new linear motion product line
for industry and a new company,
LM76 Linear Motion
Bearings.
